Billabong Mural

Billabong Mural

Painted on a wall 2.2 X 3.6 m this simplified trompe l'oeil creates the illusion of being able to setp through the arch and wander to the billabong below.  The mural was done as a private commission.  The brief was to create something that incorporated the client's grandfather's drawing of native birds done as art therapy after WW1.  The idea of a billabong allows the birds their natural habitat and also provided the opportunity to present other wildlife, seen if peered at closely.  Other than the brickwork for the arch, the painting is done in artists acrylics and finished with an exterior clear varnish to protect it from the elements.
